Co-chaired by Tina Barrios and Jeannie Galindo, the Technology Council was created in the late 1990's to begin the process of standardizing hardware, software, and other technology infrastructure in the district. Since its inception, the council has been highly effective in identifying needs and moving the district closer to standardization providing schools and departments with increased efficiency and savings. The council also provides an opportunity for schools and departments to share and collaborate technology ideas and information. Membership in the council is diverse and includes Assistant Superintendents Darcy Hopko and Jim Drake, plus district level department managers, technology department managers, principals and school technology contacts. Another task of the Council is to ensure the district has the necessary capacity (personnel, hardware, and infrastructure) to support technology requests. The Council reviews all proposals analyzing the budgetary impact of each project and ensuring the conditions exist to fully support the project without compromising its goals and end product. In addition to reviewing department requests, beginning in August 2006 the Technology Council will assess and approve school technology plans ensuring district capacity to wholly support each plan. The Council's role is vital to the continued success of technology in the district. |
