...to the Manatee County Office of Safe Schools home page. We are the former Department of Safe and Drug Free Schools (SDFS) which was eliminated by Congress during the 2009-2010 academic year. The School Board of Manatee County approved a reorganization plan prior to the 2010-2011 year, which places our personnel under the district's Department of Drop-Out Prevention, Truancy, and Alternative Programs. The Office of Safe Schools will continue to deliver developmentally appropriate education and prevention programs which address substance use, violence, and bullying. Additionally we will keep our focus on character education and developing positive interventions for student behavioral and social-emotional issues. This site provides factual information for students, parents, and educators concerning drug use, violence, and bullying, as well as what can be done to help reduce or eliminate these problems from our community. School administrators, counselors, and teachers throughout Manatee County can also use this site to view all of the latest prevention curriculum, programs, and videos available in our resource library and order them absolutely free of charge. We are also responsible for the development and implementation of several programs which seek to reduce the risk factors associated with drug abuse and violent behavior. From alternative to suspension programs, to curriculum development and policy frameworks, they can all be viewed in full detail simply by clicking on the programs button to the left.
