The School District of Manatee County struck gold Tuesday when Lt. Governor Toni Jennings and Education Commissioner John L. Winn announced the recipients of the 2006-07 SUCCEED, Florida! Career Education Grants

The Manatee school district was awarded $636,952 for six career and technical education programs, which amounted to the second largest public school district award in the state under the SUCCEED, Florida grants.

“The success we are celebrating today with this announcement from Tallahassee is a reflection of the strong partnerships between our career and technical education programs and the Manatee business community,” said Superintendent Dr. Roger Dearing. “Without this industry support we would have been left out in the cold. A major part of the grant requirement is the documentation of strong partnerships.”

Manatee Technical Institute (MTI) will receive $376,295 of the funding to expand its Manufacturing and Medical Assistant program, according to Doug Wagner, Director of Adult, Career and Technical Education for the school district.

Braden River High School is scheduled to receive $204,657 to enhance its “wall-to-wall” academies, and $56,000 will go to Community High School's partnership program with MTI in the field of Culinary Arts and Hospitality. “This will assist us even further in our efforts to educate students so that they can continue to meet the evolving needs of the local workforce,” Wagner said
