Click to Enlarge (Bradenton, FL. - May 31, 2012) The students who run the Kid's Bank at Rowlett Elementary Magnet School were all dressed in red shirts and ready to impress. And they did just that, as the students gave a detailed report - complete with PowerPoint presentation - of how the bank fared this school year.

Sponsored by Bank of America, the Kid's Bank at Rowlett is an actual bank where students can open and operate savings accounts. Positions at the Kid's Bank - such as Tellers, Personal Bankers, Guards, Greeters and Marketing Personnel - are handled by fifth-grade students at the school. The Kid's Bank at Rowlett has been in operation for 12 years now.

The more than 30 students who ran the bank this year actually had to apply for the positions and were interviewed for their jobs by Bank of America representatives.

Bank of America employees Cindy Hall and Cathy Johnson played a pivotal role in the Kid's Bank program: helping to conduct interviews, training, overseeing bank accounts, maintaining funding, participating in Kid's Bank Business Days and more.

During the Annual Report presentation, given in the school's Media Center on Thursday, May 31, 2012, students informed parents, teachers and other invited guests about how many deposits were made each month, how various marketing strategies worked, and ways to potentially improve bank operations in the future.

Click to Enlarge Third-grade Teacher Monica Corbett, who is retiring this year after 35 years as an educator, has helped oversee the bank's operations since its inception. Ms. Corbett has promised to come back next year and help run the bank again, because she believes the program is truly beneficial to students and the school.

Rowlett teachers Rebecca Rose, Vicki Capestany, Kim Penman, Kim McAfee, Mindy Walsh, Becky McDaniel, Evelyn Daniel and Christina Feely also played important roles by coordinating and supervising meetings for marketing, organizing the Meals on Wheels project, assisted with technology, participating in the interview process and assisting in organizing the End of Year presentation.
