FARM CITY WEEK PROCLAMATION (TRISH LITTON)

Trish Litton, Secondary Vocational Program Specialist, announced that Farm City Week will take place November 12-20, 2004. She introduced Ralph Garrison, Farm City Week Chairman, who presented information on Farm City Week activities and presented gifts for each Board Member.

PROCLAMATION

Farm City Week

WHEREAS, the prosperity and the well-being of the citizens of Manatee County are highly dependent upon the cooperation, mutual understanding, and respect between our agriculture producers and the urban segment of our population; and,

WHEREAS, this year's Farm-City Week celebration will focus on the local seafood industry, its impact and heritage; and,

WHEREAS, Manatee County's agricultural industry is one of our largest and most important providing food, jobs, and approximately 450 million dollars annually in economic impact in our County, and,

WHEREAS, the commercial fishing industry in Manatee County contributes over 15 million dollars in economic impact annually; and,

WHEREAS, the general public of Manatee County has a great stake in a healthy and productive agriculture including marine ecosystems; and,

WHEREAS, Farm City Week provides an unusual opportunity for commercial fishermen, along with other agriculture enterprises, and their city neighbors to become acquainted, and to work together for a better understanding of our interdependence on each other; and,

WHEREAS, this is an opportunity for us all to understand each other's problems and desires and with this understanding, increased harmony and progress will come to Manatee County.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the School Board of Manatee County, Florida, that the week of November 12-20, 2004 shall be known, designated and set aside as FARM CITY WEEK in Manatee County, Florida and all citizens are urged to recognize the outstanding contributions agriculture has made to our economy and community

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the School Board Chairman and Superintendent have hereunto subscribed their names on this 1st day of November, 2004.

Mrs. Harvey moved, with a second by Mr. Miller, to accept the proclamation and approve Farm City Week for Manatee County, November 12-20, 2004. Motion carried 5-0.
