MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MANATEE COUNTY
REGULAR MEETING, MONDAY, JANUARY 26th, 2004
The School Board of Manatee County met in regular session at the School Board Administration Building on Monday, January 26, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. Members present: Larry Simmons, Chairman, Barbara A. Harvey, Frank Brunner, Harry G. Kinnan, and Walter E. Miller. Also present: Dr. Roger Dearing, Superintendent.
INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chairman Simmons called to order the Regular Business Meeting at 7:00 p.m., followed by a moment of silence and recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag by audience and Board Members.
APPROVAL OF ORDERS OF THE DAY
Consent C.7 - Approval to Apply for a Renewal of the State Voluntary Public School Choice Grant (Mentor District Project) for the project year 2004; Consent D.1 - Educational Plant Survey - 2004; New Business B. Consideration of Approval of a Supplemental Interlocal Agreement for Public School Facility Planning with Manatee County were withdrawn from the Agenda. An emergency item was added to the Agenda under New Business G - Martha B. King Middle School - Contract to Purchase Additional Land.
Mr. Brunner moved, with a second by Mrs. Harvey, to add Martha B. King Middle School - Contract to Purchase Additional Land to the New Business Agenda. Motion carried 5-0.
Mr. Kinnan moved, with a second by Mrs. Harvey, to approve the Agenda as amended. Motion carried 5-0.
MINUTES
Mrs. Harvey moved, with a second by Mr. Miller, to approve the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of January 12, 2004, Workshop of January 13, 2004 and Special Meeting of January 14, 2004. Motion carried 5-0.
RECOGNITIONS
SUNTRUST SCHOOL FUND DRIVE
Through a partnership with the Funding Factory, SunTrust School Fund Drive converted donated items into cash for local schools. Every donor was eligible to nominate a school to receive the funds raised. Kathy Vincent, Assistant Route Specialist, made a donation with Palm View Elementary as beneficiary, which was the winning nomination. Dianna M. Weaver, First Vice President Area Manager with SunTrust Bank, presented a check for $6,322.20 to David Marshall, Principal of Palm View.
Superintendent Dearing presented Ms. Vincent with a "You Make A Difference" pin in appreciation of her support of Palm View Elementary.
Audience and Board Members applauded Ms. Weber and Ms. Vincent.
RECOGNITION OF LARRY SIMMONS BY MANATEE COUNTY SCHOOLS FOUNDATION BOARD
Mr. Larry Simmons, School Board member, served on the Manatee County Schools Foundation ("Foundation") Board from 2001-2003. Vernon DeSear, the Foundation Chairman, expressed appreciation to Mr. Simmons for his commitment and support of the Foundation and its programs and to the students in our public schools.
Audience and Board Members applauded Mr. Simmons.
