MARTHA B. KING MIDDLE SCHOOL - CONTRACT TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL LAND

Martha B. King Middle School was constructed in 1978 on 18 acres. A recent study of the school identified many problems which are not cost efficient to correct. The School Board has allocated money in the Capital Plan to replace the School.

Approval of this contract will allow the School Board to obtain an additional 7.93+ acres for utilization at Martha B. King Middle School.

There are 18 acres at the current Martha B. King Middle School. The School Board generally attempts to obtain 30 acres for new middle schools. Acquisition of this additional acreage would provide a total of 26 acres at Martha B. King Middle School.

Staff has begun due diligence review. Two appraisals, a survey, title search and Phase I environmental assessment are in progress.

The property is under contract to Bill Marshall. Mr. Marshall is required to close on the property on January 30, 2004. The contract can be assigned.

There is a strip of property which separates this site from Martha B. King Middle School. This strip of property provides access to two houses. Future acquisition of this property would be required for the Martha B. King Middle School to adjoin the 7.93+ acre site. The School Board would also have to provide alternative access to the two houses.

The negotiated cost of the land is $1,000,000.00 which will be funded from account 42003973901.4660.7400.

The Superintendent recommends the approval of Martha B. King Middle School - Contract to Purchase Additional Land.

Mr. Miller moved, with a second by Mrs. Harvey, to approve of Martha B. King Middle School - Contract to Purchase Additional Land. Motion carried 5-0. (Copy of Contract can be found in the Supplemental Minute Book.)
