PUBLIC COMMENTS - CONTINUED

4.  Berniece Scott - member of MCCAT (Manatee County Community Action Team) - extended an invitation to the Board to come and visit the subdivision (Bradenton Village) and see the figures reflecting the numbers of births, deaths and the number of people (including children) in the subdivision.

5.  Glen Cox (Bayshore Gardens resident) - spoke in opposition to the current Redistricting Plan which would bus some of the Bayshore Gardens middle school students from Lee Middle to Harllee Middle School.

6.  Janice Patton (Bayshore Gardens resident) - spoke in opposition to the current Redistricting Plan which would bus some of the Bayshore Gardens middle school students from Lee Middle to Harllee Middle School.

7.  Maynard J. Boyce (Bayshore Gardens resident) - spoke in opposition to the current Redistricting Plan which would bus some of the Bayshore Gardens middle school students from Lee Middle to Harllee Middle School.

8.  Debi Grunewald - (Bayshore Gardens resident) - spoke in opposition to the current Redistricting Plan which would bus some of the Bayshore Gardens middle school students from Lee Middle to Harllee Middle School.

9.  Dave Miner - spoke in opposition to the Board's approving the Consent Agenda, (including Consent C.1: Approval of Elementary “J” School Site - Agreement for Purchase of Property) without allowing the privilege of public comment prior to Board action.

BOARD COMMENTS

Mr. Kinnan

Guests - welcomed guests from the College of Education at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg who were in attendance.

Bayshore Gardens Presentation - noted that he worked in the Bayshore neighborhood area for 26 years (at Manatee Community College) and therefore is sensitive to the issues at hand. He requested that staff make sure and communicate accurate information to those residents who spoke during Public Comments.

Retirement of Bette Devine - congratulated Ms. Devine on the recent announcement of her retirement, and said he enjoyed attending her reception, where he saw many old friends and retired educators.

Local Talent - commended Rob Shapiro (Staff Attorney) on his musical ability as a trumpet player and singer, both of which Mr. Kinnan had the opportunity to hear at a recent event.

Board Representation - discussed several issues regarding the current legislative session, and his recent trip to Tallahassee.

Central Florida Public School Boards Consortium - requested the Board explore whether or not to consider a relationship with this consortium, which meets again on May 10.

Superintendent Dearing distributed information regarding this consortium, which he had received at the prior request of Chairman Simmons. Dr. Dearing reviewed the information, highlighting the purpose of the consortium.

Mr. Brunner had no comments.

Mr. Miller

Guests - welcomed guests from the College of Education at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg who were in attendance.

Retirements - congratulated Bette Devine on her retirement. He made a special distinction of the many educators who are retiring who have worked 30 or more years for the district.
