RESOLVED, that the School District of Manatee County encourages teachers, students and parents to engage in appropriate educational programs in recognition of the progress that has been made in Florida's public school system during the past fifty years; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the School District of Manatee County reaffirms its ongoing commitment to affirmatively furthering equal educational opportunities throughout the district.

ADOPTED by the School Board of Manatee County, Florida on the 17th day of May, 2004.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the School Board Chairman and Superintendent have hereunto subscribed their names on this 17th day of May, 2004.

Mrs. Harvey moved, with a second by Mr. Kinnan, to officially recognize the historic decision of Brown v. Board of Education as contained in this Resolution. Motion carried 4-0.

PERFECT SCORE ON NATIONAL LATIN EXAM 2004

The School Board of Manatee County recognized Matthew Capriotti of Lakewood Ranch High School for achieving a perfect score on the National Latin Exam 2004.

Herb Tschappat, Director of Secondary Education, presented Matthew with a certificate which recognizes his outstanding academic achievement.

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARS 2003-2004

The School Board of Manatee County recognized Manatee County's 2004 National Merit Scholars: Caroline Hovanec (Lakewood Ranch High School), Carl MacMichael (Manatee High School), and Justin Weinkle (Saint Stephen's Episcopal School).

Mr. Tschappat presented the students with a certificate in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement.

SENIORS WITH TWELVE OR MORE YEARS PERFECT ATTENDANCE (HERB TSCHAPPAT)

The School Board of Manatee County recognized the following students who have achieved perfect attendance through twelfth grade. This is a monumental achievement in that it takes a bit of luck, a good deal of willpower, and a lot of personal integrity to attend school each and every day for twelve or more years. Such consistency and dedication is to be commended as it certainly established lifelong habits which will make these students a success in any area they choose in the future.

Those with twelve or more years perfect attendance are:

CAROLINE LOUISE HOVANEC - PERFECT SCORE ON SAT (SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST) EXAM (HERB TSCHAPPAT)

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is made up of two sections (verbal and math). The verbal questions test one's ability to understand and analyze what is read, recognize relationships between parts of a sentence and establish relationships between pairs of words. The math section tests one's ability to solve problems involving arithmetic, algebra and geometry. Each section has a maximum total points of 800 that can be earned, totaling 1,600 points.

Caroline Hovanec earned all 1,600 possible points, a rare accomplishment.

Mr. Tschappat presented Caroline with a certificate in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement.
