He also recommended local suggestions for changes at the Federal level, and to State legislators for the implementation at the State level. Return to Work - thanked the Board and others for the well wishes while he recovered from surgery. Mr. Miller Welcome Back to Mr. Brunner - welcomed Mr. Brunner back. Compliment to Staff - commended Lynette Edwards (Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction) and her staff for working with students and teachers with the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test and No Child Left Behind. Well-Wishes to Tom Walker - expressed well-wishes to Dr. Tom Walker, Director of Elementary Education, who is attending his last School Board Meeting this evening. Construction - said Bill Horton, Assistant Superintendent for School Support Services, assured him that a situation like the construction project in Citrus County would not happen here. Mrs. Harvey Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) Scores - commended Superintendent Dearing, teachers, students and parents for time on task, resulting in fine FCAT scores. Blackstone Park - described improvements proposed for Blackstone Park, and requested Board Members and others to participate by writing letters of support for this community project. Mr. Brunner suggested this item be placed on the Agenda for the Joint Meeting with the County Commissioners tentatively scheduled for July 29, 2004. Mr. Simmons Florida School Boards Association Spring Conference - said he attended this meeting in Tampa. Central Florida Schools Coalition - said the Coalition is planning to have an education summit in September, and they requested our school district to appoint a staff person to be the liaison to facilitate coordinating information for the summit. Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) - congratulated everyone for their outstanding work on FCAT. Superintendent's Evaluation - reminded Board Members of the Superintendent's Evaluation. Board Representation - informed Board Members that he would represent the Board at a Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council meeting in Pinellas County this week. Board Legislative Liaison - noted that Florida School Boards Association would be revising their lobbying procedures, and will ask that every School Board appoint a legislative liaison person. |
