BOARD COMMENTS - (Continued) Harry Kinnan Board Representation - reported on issues discussed at the Southern Association of School Boards Regional Conference. Recognition - reminded staff that we should recognize those students who serve our country. Frank Brunner Health Fair - announced there will be a Health Fair for students (free of charge) on July 31, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, Bradenton. Larry Simmons Immunizations of 7th Grade Students - commended the Superintendent and other Board Members for taking a proactive stance to address the issue of required immunizations, through the CEO Roundtable and other avenues. Personnel Application Tracking System - suggested the process be reviewed. Flags - said businesses may be interested in being a partner by adopting a school and supplying flags. Tax Free Shopping - reminded parents of the opportunity to shop for school items, sales tax free through this week. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT 1. District Representation - reported on his current service as President of Florida School Music Association (FSMA) and Florida Association of District School Superintendents (FADSS), which will provide him an opportunity to participate on state level committees. 2. Fiscal Responsibility - corrected misinformation as reported in local newspapers recently regarding purchases by various departments. 3. Communication - said there will be an open space forum on August 7 at Bayshore High School auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. He added that employees and community people are invited; and requested they confirm their attendance by calling 708-8770 x2263, so a meal may be provided for them. 4. Teachers - announced that teachers report to schools on Tuesday, August 3rd. SCHOOL BOARD WORKFLOW CHART Board Members commented regarding revisions and additions to the School Board Workflow Chart. (A copy of the current Workflow Chart can be found in the Superintendent's Office.) ANNOUNCEMENT OF EXECUTIVE SESSION Mark Barnebey, School Board Attorney, announced that an executive session regarding Collective Bargaining would be held in the Superintendent's Conference Room. Kinnan; Dr. Roger Dearing, Superintendent of Schools; Mark Barnebey, School Board Attorney; Rob Shapiro, Staff Attorney; Pat Lucas, Assistant Superintendent for District Support Services, Jim Buckley, Assistant Superintendent for Business Services; and Tim McGonegal, Executive Director of Finance. RECESS The regular meeting recessed at 10:23 p.m. and convened in the Superintendent's Conference Room at 10:30 p.m. EXECUTIVE SESSION The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Collective Bargaining. RECESS The Executive Session was recessed from the Superintendent's Conference Room at 11:24 p.m. and reconvened in regular meeting at 11:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman Simmons adjourned the meeting at 11:32 p.m. |
