Mr. Kinnan acknowledged that was the intent of his amendment. Superintendent Dearing clarified the intent of the motion included siblings at the same middle school during this three-year period (so that all siblings would attend the same school at the same time so long as there are siblings from the same family attending the same middle school). Mr. Brunner responded in the affirmative. Mr. Kinnan sought clarification. Superintendent Dearing stated that if the Board wants to grandfather rising 7th and 8th graders and their siblings as long as transportation is provided (by parents) and the room exists, he will agree to it. Mr. Brunner reiterated the essence of the motion was “rising 7th and 8th graders would remain.” He said the existing School Choice policy would be continued and would apply to the sibling issue. Dr. Dearing said the rising 7th and 8th graders will also be required to fill out the School Choice forms for grandfathering, and the parents will have to provide transportation. A timeline will be established for completing the form, so that staffing needs for next year can be established. There was consensus to set April 15 as the deadline for submitting the School Choice form. Mr. Simmons called the question. Motion carried 5-0. The purpose of the following informal written description is to provide insight to all interested parties regarding the boundary area created for Dan Nolan Middle School: Begin at a point on the north/south boundary line between Manatee County and Desoto County and the intersection of SR 64 E. Proceed west on SR 64 E to Wauchula Rd (both sides of SR 64 E to Lincoln Middle). Proceed west in the center of SR 64 E to Lorraine Rd Proceed south in the center of Lorraine Rd for approximately one mile then west using an imaginary line to Lakewood Ranch Blvd. Proceed south in the center of Lakewood Ranch Blvd to Hidden River Trail. Proceed west, then south using an imaginary line to intersect again with Lakewood Ranch Blvd (this keeps the area of Riverwalk on the west side of Lakewood Ranch Blvd. in the Nolan Middle School boundary area). Proceed south in the center of Lakewood Ranch Blvd to University Pkwy. Proceed east, then south, then east, then north along the Manatee County line back to the beginning point. |
