Minutes: 

Board members present: Robert C. Gause, Chairman; Julie B. Aranibar, Karen Carpenter, and Barbara A. Harvey.  Also present: Tim McGonegal, Superintendent; Lynette Edwards, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction; Darcy Hopko, Assistant Superintendent for District Support Services; and Jim Drake, Assistant Superintendent for Business Services.

 

Not present:  Harry G. Kinnan, Vice-Chairman.


CALL TO ORDER (5:45 p.m.)
3. Call to Order

Minutes: 

Chairman Gause called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m.

4. Pledge of Allegiance

Minutes: 

Chairman Gause led in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chairman Gause requested the observance of a moment of silence.

Chairman Gause noted that Board Vice-Chairman Harry Kinnan was ill and would not be at the workshop.  He asked that that the Board keep Mr. Kinnan in their prayers.

Minutes: 

Superintendent McGonegal introduced this item to the Board.  He invited Danny Lundeen, Supervisor of Student Demographics, Projections, and Assignment, to explain the realignment process to the Board.

Mr. Lundeen made a presentation to the Board.  The presentation has been attached to the agenda item.

Mr. Lundeen invited representatives of the three committees to present their realignment recommendations to the Board.

The Board asked questions of Superintendent McGonegal and Mr. Lundeen.

Ms. Carpenter asked Mr. Lundeen to provide copies of the complaint and any settlement with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR).  She also requested a report showing staff and faculty diversity at the various levels, for the schools that will be affected by this realignment.

Superintendent McGonegal advised the Board that he will bring them a recommendation prior to the December 13, 2010 Board Meeting.

6. Adjournment

Minutes: 

Prior to adjournment, Ms. Aranibar requested that the Board have time to discuss information that will be presented at the Florida School Boards Association conference taking place later in the week.

Superintendent McGonegal said the information can be shared under Board Comments at the regular Board Meeting of December 13, 2010.

There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman Gause adjourned the meeting at 6:50 p.m.
