The School District of Manatee County in collaboration with fourteen community partners applied to the Manatee County Government for funding to implement a comprehensive pregnancy prevention program in six middle schools during the 2011 and 2012 school year.  Our approved application with Manatee County Government includes a contract with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Manatee County to deliver components of the program, using staff from their facilities who have been trained in these components.  This contract is a renewal from last year with no substantive changes in the contract provisions.  During the 2010-11 school year, The Boys & Girls Clubs provided 4,285 units of instruction at our middle schools.

This grant will assist in the accomplishment of the EdVantage Strategic Objective for each student to articulate personal goals, create plans to achieve those goals, and exhibit progress toward the attainment of those goals.  The It's yoUR Choice Teen Pregnancy Prevention Grant is a collaboration between the School District, Manatee County Government, fourteen community partners, and Buffalo Creek, Harllee, Horizons, Johnson, Lincoln, and Sugg Middle Schools.

The Superintendent recommends approval of the renewal of the contract between The Boys and Girls Clubs of Manatee County and the School Board of Manatee County for It's yoUR Choice Teen Pregnancy Prevention Grant for the 2011-12 school year.

The District has been awarded $279,715.00 by the Manatee County Government to implement the It's yoUR Choice Teen Pregnancy Prevention Grant.  $74,880.00 of that amount is allocated for the contract with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County.  The School District provides no funds from the operating budget to implement this grant.
