
Agenda Item #53 Title Approval of Advertising a Notice of Intent to Amend Policy 4.9, Student Progression, and Setting a Public Hearing on Proposed Rule at the Board Meeting Scheduled for August 24, 2009 - p.71 Executive Summary The School Board approved the current Manatee District Student Progression Plan, which includes the promotion and remediation criteria for students in grades K through 12, on July 8, 2008. Each year the Florida Department of Education identifies elements required in District Student Progression Plans. The Curriculum and Instruction Division conducted a Board Workshop on July 14, 2009 to review the recommendations in the 2009-2010 Student Progression Plan. The proposed revisions will reflect the District's updates to rule 4.9, Student Progression. The policy has been reformatted into 4.9.1 (Elementary School), 4.9.2 (Middle School) and 4.9.3 (High School) to delineate programs for each grade level. This will create a more user-friendly document for the stakeholders of the Approving the advertising and setting public hearing assures compliance with the provisions of Section 120.54 (3) (a) 1, Florida Statutes (2008). A copy of the proposed change is attached with new language indicated by underlining and deleted language indicated by The Superintendent recommends approval of advertising a Notice of Intent to amend Policy 4.9, Student Progression, and setting a Public Hearing on the proposed rule at the Board Meeting scheduled for August 24, 2009.
