Portable  No. 937 was acquired in January 1976, and is currently located at Rowlett Elementary School, 3500 9^th Street East, Bradenton, FL.

An inspection by the School District’s Staff Architect has determined the unit is in very poor condition, unsafe for use as a classroom or office space. The cost for the District to bring the unit up to code compliance would exceed its current value and has recommended the unit be taken out of service.

An asbestos survey was completed by OHC Environmental Engineering and their findings show no asbestos-containing material.

The School District’s Maintenance Department will perform all service disconnects and removal of hazardous/regulated materials. Cross Environmental Services will perform the demolition, removal and disposal of approximately 975 square feet of the existing unit.

School Board of Manatee County Policy No. 7.1, Sale, Transfer or Disposal of Real or Tangible Personal Property, outlines the procedures to be followed in the acquisition, supervision, accountability, control transfer and disposal of the District’s property. Items are declared surplus in order to remove them from inventory accountability at the present Cost Center, and dispose of them as provided for in Florida Administrative Code 69I-73 and Florida Statute 274. Disposition may involve any of the following: sale by public auction, sale or transfer to another governmental entity, scrap for reusable parts, donation to a School Board designated receiver, or abandonment at a public landfill.

The Superintendent recommends approval of the request to declare surplus and demolish portable No. 937.

The amount of $2,950.00, will be charged to 41003773756.4689.7400. The original cost of portable #937 was $18,092.00, when acquired in 1976. This unit has fully depreciated and will be removed from the property records.
