Grand Prize Winner Matt Norvell - p.24 Executive Summary Matt Norvell, Kindergarten teacher at Oneco Elementary School, has been named a Grand Prize winner in the 2009 Got 2B Safe! Awards Program. The program recognizes teachers committed to keeping children safer from abduction and sexual exploitation. This year, Honeywell and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) honor 105 of America’s safest teachers from 32 states, including Matt who is one of five Grand Prize winners. Teachers who entered the Awards Program were encouraged to submit essays emphasizing how they have implemented the Got 2B Safe! Four Rules of Safety in their classrooms. Matt’s winning entry involved a week-long program that incorporated a different safety activity on each day based on the Got 2B Safe! Four Rules of Safety. Matt will receive a free eco-classroom makeover from national design firm, DesignCentrix, valued at $10,000.00, an invitation to attend NCMEC’s Hope Awards program in Washington, D.C., and have his lesson plans posted on the Got 2B Safe! Website. Tim Kolbe, Director of Elementary Education, will introduce Marian Summers, Principal of Oneco Elementary. Recommendation Financial Impact Contact Curriculum and Instruction LE/yb 06/08/09 |
