Agenda Item #10
Recognition of the Florida State Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Raider Challenge Championship Winners - p.30
The one hundred thirty-nine Army JROTC programs in the state are organized into eleven areas. Based on the number of schools in an area, an allocation is made on the number of teams each area may enter. There are three categories in the competition – All Male Teams with eight cadets, All Female Teams with eight cadets and Male/Female Mixed Teams with five male and three female cadets.
Each team competes in five military skill events which are physically and mentally demanding over the course of a day. The events include an Army Physical Test (push-ups, sit-ups, and two mile run), construct a One-Rope Bridge and cross an obstacle, take a written First Aid Test and run a one mile Litter Carry with simulated casualty, take a written Land Navigation Test, and locate and identify four distant land obstacles (wall, low-crawl and rope bridge).
Manatee County high schools earned five of the seven area allocations to attend the state competition held at the Boy Scouts of America Camp Tanha Keeta,
