
Agenda Item #27 Title Approval to Accept and Expend the Increase in Allocation and Roll Forward to the Title 1, Part A Education of Disadvantaged Children and Youth Grant for Fiscal Year 2009 - 2010 - p.38 Executive Summary On April 21, 2010, the Title 1 Part A, Office received notification from the Florida Department of Education of the increase in allocation and roll forward for the Title 1, Part A Education of Disadvantaged Children and Youth grant in the amount of $206,763.90, for a total Title 1 grant allocation of $8,349,048.90. The Title 1 Part A grant provides supplemental funds to twenty-two Title 1 schools in Manatee County. Allocations to these schools are formulated by using each school’s free and reduced-price lunch counts. Title 1, Part A grant provides salaries for instructional, administrative, and support personnel. The grant also provides for supplemental instructional materials, supplies, staff development activities, and additional support for homeless and neglected and delinquent students. These funds will ensure that teachers have the opportunities to participate in professional development activities that mirror student learning to include discovery, exploratory problem-solving and self-educating techniques to improve student performance so that the mission, core values and strategic objectives are reflected in every classroom. The Superintendent recommends approval to accept and expend the increase in allocation and roll forward to the Title 1, Part A Education of Disadvantaged Children and Youth Grant for Fiscal Year 2009 – 2010.
