The Title 1, Part A, Basic program and the Title 1 Schoolwide schools have contracted with Learning Focused Solutions, Inc., throughout the 2009 – 2010 school year.  The contract for Learning Focused Solutions for Professional Development June 16 through June 30, 2010, for the Title 1 Basic program, will exceed the $50,000.00 contract limit requiring Board approval. The total of all contracts for Fiscal Year 2010, to include additional professional development training materials, will not exceed $120,000.00.

These contracts will provide training for teachers in all Title 1 schools in Vocabulary, Acceleration: Catching Kids Up, Reading Comprehension for English Language Arts (ELA) teachers 6-12, and Toolbox navigation training.

Professional development experiences mirror student learning in that they include discovery, exploratory problem-solving and self-educating techniques to improve student performance so that the mission, core values, and strategic objectives are reflected in every classroom.

The Superintendent recommends approval of the contracts between the School District of Manatee County and Learning Focused Solutions, Inc., for the 2009 – 2010 school year.

The estimated cost to implement this agenda item will not exceed $12, 695.00, and with Learning Focused Solutions, Inc., for the 2009 - 2010 school year, will not exceed $120,000.00. The funding source for this annually estimated expenditure is Title 1, Part A, Basic program funds, and is included in the Federal Programs and Grants Department approved budget.
