
Agenda Item #26 Title Approval to Submit, Accept and Expend the Title 1 Part A, Amendment #1, Corrective Action Funds for the 2010 – 2011 School Year - p.33 Executive Summary The Manatee County School District, Title 1, Part A Office received notification from the Florida Department of Education on September 17, 2010, to complete Amendment #1, for Corrective Action funding in the amount of $149,740.00, as the Manatee School District’s sanction by the Florida Department of Education for not achieving Adequate Yearly Progress. The Corrective Action funds will transfer from the Title 1, Part A, grant’s indirect cost paid to the district. The Manatee School District’s Corrective Action proposal has been developed in collaboration with the principals of Title 1 schools and describes the activities which will be funded with this allocation. The Corrective Action Plan includes Extended Learning Time (ELT) in grades 3-10 at Ballard, Bayshore, Blackburn, Daughtrey, Manatee, Moody, Oneco, Orange Ridge Bullock, Palmetto, Prine, Rogers, Samoset and Tillman Elementary Schools, Harllee and Johnson Middle and Bayshore, Central, Horizons, Palmetto, Southeast High Schools, Oasis, Team Success and Richard Milburn Charter schools. The funds will be used to provide additional instructional time in reading and math at all levels with a secondary focus on Algebra 1 in preparation for the EOC. Priority subgroups for the Corrective Action funds in reading will be all subgroups except Asian. In math the priority will be Black, Hispanic, English Language Learners, Economically Disadvantaged and Students with Disabilities. For Algebra 1 all students currently enrolled in the course at the Title 1 secondary schools will be eligible. In the School District of Manatee County (the District), standards and benchmarks have been adopted that align with the core values, strategic objectives, National and Sunshine State Standards and, where needed, additional standards and benchmarks have been developed in order to ensure that students are learning the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to achieve the strategic objectives. The Superintendent recommends approval to submit, accept and expend the Title 1 Part A, Amendment #1, Corrective Action Funds for the 2010 – 2011 school year.
