Since the 2003 Legislative Sessions, Mixon and Associates has provided services to the District, which involved the coordination of legislative activities, and weekly conference calls to brief the Superintendent, School Board liaison, and key staff members on the status of legislation and budget proposals, to discuss substantive issues and their impact on Manatee County Schools.  Following the session, Mixon and Associates representatives conducted a School Board Workshop to provide updated information.

The proposed agreement for consultative services commences on November 1, 2010, and expires on October 31, 2011.  The scope of services include a workshop to discuss legislative priorities prior to the 2011 Legislative Session, weekly conference calls during the Legislative Session to brief the Superintendent on legislative developments, provide office support to District staff when in Tallahassee, and to pursue funding, grants, appeals, and approvals before state agencies in Tallahassee, and other activities as set forth in the Performance Criteria.

Renewing the Agreement with Mixon and Associates supports the EdVantage strategic objective of continually participating in democratic processes.

The Superintendent recommends approval of the Agreement between the School Board of Manatee County and Mixon and Associates for consultative services and representation in governmental affairs.

The  estimated cost to implement this agenda item will not exceed $26,631.00.  The funding source for this annually estimated expenditure is the General Fund, and is included in the School Board Office budget.
