Agenda Item #21
Approval to Accept the Fire Truck Donation from the City of Bradenton - p.33
The City of Bradenton Fire Department generously decided to donate a fire truck to the District for use in the Fire Academy classes at Manatee Technical Institute (MTI). The Department came to the decision after learning at an Academy Advisory Committee meeting of the need for a truck and after discussing possible options for replacement of the currently out-of-service fire truck at MTI. (A representative from the Bradenton Fire Department serves on the advisory committee.) To complete the Fire Fighter certification program at the MTI Fire Science Academy, students must demonstrate competency in the use of several types of fire trucks, one of them being a pumper. The donated truck is a 1987 Pierce pumper. It will replace the 1976 pumper that MTI was using until it went out of service last school year. The donated truck is in good operating condition. It is anticipated that it has approximately three to five years of remaining useful life.
The Superintendent recommends approval to accept the fire truck donation from the City of Bradenton.
Motion and approval to accept the fire truck donation from the City of Bradenton.
The truck is valued at approximately $10,000.00. The donated truck saves the District/MTI over $35,000.00 to purchase a used truck or over $180,000.00 to buy a new fire truck. The City of Bradenton is donating the truck free and clear. There are no requirements of any kind for any type of payment, match, or trade. The donation will be considered official upon the approval of this acceptance and transfer of title.
