Through a new four year Race to the Top competition geared toward school districts, the School District of Manatee County, Florida is proposing an initiative that will increase student performance in core academic areas through the expanded implementation of successful STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning experiences. Through this vision, Manatee will harness the creative energy of our students and fuel their excitement in learning.

Estimated total student impact after four years: 22,360 Students.

Partners:  The Manatee Education Association as well as members from curriculum, administration and local organizations have worked together on this submission. 

EdVantage: This program meets several EdVantage strategic objectives including Enthusiasm for Learning, as students of all abilities have the support needed to learn to the best of their capabilities in a personalized environment that is structured on 21st Century skills critical to their future survival and success.

The Superintendent recommends approval to apply for the Race to the Top – District Application Effective December 2012 through December 2016.

The School District will act as the fiscal agent for the project and receive funds over a four-year period through the grant. There is no District financial impact or cash match involved with this grant.
