The Five Star School award is a symbol of achievement presented each year to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement in five specific areas:

Business Partnerships, Family Involvement, Volunteers, Student Community Service, and School Advisory Councils.

In order to qualify for this award, a school must have double the number of volunteer hours compared to the number of students enrolled, achieve 100% of the criteria in each of the five categories, have a school grade of “C” or above and also have a portfolio that documents the achievement of each criterion.

Schools meeting these qualifications annually will receive the highest designation for community involvement from the Florida Department of Education.
