
Agenda Item #20 Title Approval to Apply, Accept and Expend the Florida Department of Education Entitlement Funds for Assessment and Evaluation for the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) in the Amount of $10,760.16 Through June 2013 - p.30 Executive Summary As required by the Florida Department of Education Rule 6A-10.0315, F.A.C College Preparatory Testing, Placement and Instructions, the School District of Manatee County administers the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) which is used as a strategy for improving postsecondary readiness for college and careers. It supports the improvement of the alignment of high schools with college and career expectations and assists with moving students to a higher level of proficiency. School districts submit a request to the Department of Education for the purchase of Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) subtests needed to test eligible students using computer technology as the testing tool. Also included are specifications on the number of subtests needed for students who require paper and pencil format and/or Braille format based on Individual Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plans. The School District of Manatee County will submit an application in the amount of $10,760.16. The target population is high school students currently in the eleventh grade who scored a Level 2 or 3 on the 2011-2012 tenth grade Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT)Reading and/or scored a Level 2, 3 or 4 on the 2011-2012 tenth grade F.C.A.T. Mathematics and have not otherwise demonstrated college readiness on the American College Test (ACT)or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The PERT will allow the District Administrators, Principals and Academic Advisors to evaluate the progress of these students toward college and career readiness. Students who do not pass the PERT must take specific remediation courses at their school site in order to retake the PERT to qualify for college readiness. Future awards will be contingent upon receipt of funding for this purpose from the Florida Legislature. The Superintendent recommends approval to apply, accept and expend the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) in the amount of $10,760.16 through June 30, 2013. Financial Impact If awarded, the School District of Manatee County will receive $10,760.16 from the Florida Department of Education to purchase the PERT tests for the 2012-2013 school year upon receipt of the application through June 30, 2013.
