Agenda Item #35 Title Approval of the 2012-2013 School Advisory Council Membership Rosters - p.52 Executive Summary Florida School Law 1001.452 of the Title XLVIII K-20 Education Code states: "the district school board shall review the membership composition of each advisory council. If the district school board determines that the membership elected by the school is not representative of the ethnic, racial, and economic community served by the school, the district school board shall appoint additional members to achieve proper representation." School Board Policy 2.14 and the Summary of Procedures specify establishment and composition of the School Advisory Council. The School Advisory Council (SAC), which must include the principal, at least one teacher and support staff member, parents and community or business parters, collaborates with the principal and staff of a school to continually evaluate the progress of that school by aiding in the writing of the School Improvement Plan, advising the principal on specific financial expenditures and discussing issues at the school. The principals have submitted school advisory council membership lists to the Superintendent for review by the School Board. The Executive Director of Teaching and Learning has reviewed the School Advisory Council membership lists to determine if the membership is representative of the school's ethnic and economic community with at least 51 percent of the membership being non-school district employees. Each school has either achieved compliance with the Florida Department of Education requirements or has demonstrated ongoing maximized effort to do so. The Executive Director continuously works with each school to achieve appropriate representation. School Advisory Council membership lists for the 2012-2013 school year are available for review in Room 503 of the School Support Center. The Superintendent recommends approval of the 2012-2013 school advisory council membership rosters. Recommendation Motion and approval of the 2012-2013 school advisory council membership rosters.
