Title
Approval to Renew the Agreement Between the School Board of Manatee County and R & T Erickson, Inc., for On-The-Job Training for Exceptional Education Students for the School Years 2013-2016 - p.38

Executive Summary

The School Board has, over the years, contracted with numerous providers for on-the-job training (OJT) career experiences for Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students as they transition from school to work.

In order for students to continue to fully participate in this type of on-the-job career experience program, it is necessary for each of the participating providers to sign an agreement with the school system.

This contract will provide high school ESE students who are enrolled in an OJT program to earn elective credits toward a Standard or Special Education Diploma.  The program will satisfy course credit requirements, as well as place emphasis on career and employability skills.  An ESE teacher or job coach will provide supervision of the students.  In addition, for ESE students who are clients of vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Employment Specialists will be available to assist both businesses and ESE students regarding work accommodations and modifications when necessary for job success.  Students that participate in the OJT program at this job site will be taught, but are not limited to, kitchen skills, food preparation, stocking, dishwashing, busing, maintenance, and custodial work.

This contract supports the EdVantage core value of “Embracing diversity strengthens communities” by providing support for community based work experiences for students with disabilities.

The Superintendent recommends approval to renew the agreement between the School Board of Manatee County and R & T Erickson, Inc., for the on-the-job training program for Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students for school years 2013-2016.
