Sandy Ford, Director of the  Food and Nutrition Services Department is pleased to announce the award of the HealthierUS School Challenge Bronze Certification to twenty eight schools.  The HealthierUS Schools Challenge is a voluntary certification initiative that is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.).  It recognizes schools for their efforts in improving food and beverage choices, teaching students about nutritious food choices and the importance of being physically active.      In addition, Gold level applications have been submitted for the 2012-2013 school year for Gullett Elementary, Willis Elementary and Freedom Elementary, and we are awaiting their review by U.S.D.A.

Kevin Concannon, Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services with the United States Department of Agriculture will present the awards.  Joining him from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be Steve Hortin, Section Chief Southeast Region, Don Arnette, Southeast Regional Administrator, and Debbie Smoot, Director Communications and Governmental Affairs.
