Our curriculum is based on the Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards.
In each classroom at Palma Sola your child will have a 90 to 120 minute reading block where they will be participating in Reading Workshop. This will include a mini lesson taught by the teacher, followed by independent reading time where your child will be reading “Just Right” books they have selected to put in their browsing box or reading tub. During this time the teacher will be working with individual students or small groups on reading strategies. They will also have the opportunity to read with reading partners and then have additional lessons on word work (including vocabulary and phonics).
Most classrooms also have a Writer’s Workshop time where students will be learning to do different types of writing during classroom mini lessons. During Writer’s Workshop students will learn how to improve their writing through editing and adding details. Students will be writing both fiction and non-fiction from the planning stage to the publishing stage.
We use the following textbooks to help support our students learning.
