Our History

Robert Henry Prine was born April 9, 1889 in Polk County, Florida and died February 15, 1973. He came to Manatee County in 1923 and

became a banker, businessman and a farmer in the Terra Ceia area. He belonged to the First Methodist Church and served on the Manatee

County School Board for 12 years. He was president of the Manatee County Growers Association and was a director of the Exchange

Supply Company, an affiliate of the Florida Citrus Exchange. He was manager of Wilson and Toomer Fertilizer Company of Palmetto.

He combined banking with agriculture as president of the Bradenton National Farm Loan Association in the 1930s. From 1945 to 1970

he was a director of the Federal Land Bank of Wauchula. From 1942 through 1972 he was a director of the Manatee National Bank

(originally the Manatee Bank and Trust, it later merged with Southeast Bank.) In 1962, school authorities thanked him for 35 years

of work supporting the schools by naming Prine Elementary School after him. The Robert H. Prine Elementary School was built

in 1962 on 17 acres of land, and was originally to be known as the Windsor Park School. In 1964, Robert Henry Prine was named

Manatee County's Outstanding Citizen. Prine died in 1973 at age 84.
