Pirates-of-the-Week
(Click here for a complete listing of our past Pirates-of-the-Day)

Kelly Machuca and Paige Oswald

Congratulations and a hearty Pirate yo-ho-ho to these fine athletes:
Kelly Machuca and Paige Oswald.

These two outstanding Pirates have been selected for the U.S. National Martial Arts Team.
Kelly competes in sports jiu-jitsu and traditional forms, while Paige competes in traditional
and extreme forms. These two dynamos of power will be representing our country in the
2010 Martial Arts World Games in September in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If Martial Arts is accepted into the Olympic Games as a competitive
event, Kelly and Paige will be part of the Martial Arts team selected
to compete in the 2012 Olympic games in London, England.

Kelly and Paige are our very first winners of the Pirate-of-the-Week award,
a special recognition of outstanding Pirates who have been nominated by a faculty
of staff member for their contribution to the school, community, or state. They will
receive a selection of Pirate balloons, a special certificate, and a video of their award.

Special thanks to Mrs. Kathy Cook for her nomination of our PoW winners for this week.
Click here for the audio on why she nominated these two scholars.

Sign-In/Sign-Out Procedures

If a student arrives at school after 7:45 am, he/she should go to student services and sign-in.
Students are required to have their student IDs when signing in or out of school. With the
proper state-mandated documentation, parent sign-in or parent note (limited to 2 per
quarter), the student will be given a pass and sent to class. If you are late more than
twice a quarter, appropriate documentation is required. After you have used your
two tardies, a parent or parent note is NOT considered appropriate
documentation. Students who show up on campus and do not sign in,
but simply go to class next period, will be considered skipping and
will receive the appropriate consequence.

Students needing to leave campus for appointments during the day must bring a note to the
Attendance Office prior to 7:30 am that morning to receive a release pass. The note must
contain student name, grade, parent/guardian’s name and signature, home phone, work
phone, brief explanation of reason, date and time to be released, and parent/guardian
signature. Students who are 18 or older can not sign themselves out without following
the above rules. It can be difficult to locate students (during lunch or when
classes are working in other areas) when parents show up without
advance notice. Only the note before school guarantees a timely
release of student.
