Katherine Zimmerman - Pirate Scientist

Katherine Zimmerman is one of our outstanding Pirate scientists. She returned last week
from this year's Florida State Science and Engineering Fair where she was awarded 3rd
place among hundreds in the Engineering category for her project titled Water for the
World - A Solar Powered Water Purification System. This is the highest honor ever
bestowed on a BRHS student so far at the state level of the competition. Katherine
was also awarded the Naval Science award for outstanding research from the Office
of Naval Research. Next month she will be taking her project to Pittsburgh PA to
compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair. Katherine is pictured
here with the Manatee County Lockheed Martin Regional Science and Engineering
Fair Best of Show trophy, which she won for the second year in a row. She is truly
an outstanding student. Keep up the great work Katherine. Good luck in Pittsburgh!

Elizabeth Garcia

Not only has Elizabeth Garica earned admission into Harvard - she just found out
yesterday that she is a recipient of the Bill Gates Scholarship (only 1,000 students
receive this world-wide). If you see her, congratulate her!

have been awarded as we want recognize that honor too.
