Pirate-of-the Day

Sarah Schoeffel is heading to China

Congratulations to Sarah Schoeffel. She is a sophomore here at the River
who is a part of many organizations like Tri-M, NHS, Marching Band, Varsity
Soccer, JV Softball, and Athletic Training. She has been accepted to attend
the U.S. State Department's NSLI-Y Chinese Exchange Program to be an
exchange student in China for 7 weeks this summer. She will be leaving
June 25th and returning August 12th. She will be staying at a Chinese
boarding school during the week with a Chinese roommate and on the
weekend be living with an exchange family. Sarah will be totally immersed
in the Chinese culture and will gain a greater understanding of the language
and culture by visiting various historical sites and by going to school. Sarah
can help the Chinese people have a better understanding of Americans as
well. She has been taking a year of Chinese, and a trip to China will offer a
whole new experience because she will be away from home and her family
in a foreign country. What a wonderful way to put into practice the language
skills she has been working on all year. Click here for full information on
the details of what the 2012 NSLI-Y Chinese Exchange Program covers.
