The Braden River High School Athletic Boosters recently awarded
$1,000 scholarships to two outstanding senior athletes,
Chris Garcia and Kayla Kerns.

Chris has participated in baseball and football and was the team captain for the 2008-09
Varsity football team. Other activities he has been involved with include the Student
Government Association and Senior Advisory Board. Chris wishes to attend
the University of Central Florida to major in business and sports management.

Kayla has participated in track and field and soccer and has received numerous recognitions and awards
in sports such as the 2009 Soccer Leadership Award, the Varsity Soccer MVP for the last three years,
the 2009 Most Athletic Female, and the 2006-07 All-State Florida Region West District 15
MVP Runner-Up. Other activities she has been involved with include the
National Honor Society, the Student Government Association, and the
Youth Leadership Forum. Kayla has been accepted to
Manatee Community College and the University of South Florida.
