Pirates-of-the-Day

Pirates Represent the
United States of America in
World Engineering Competition
in the Republic of Singapore

Mr. Platt, senior Jeremy Petty, senior Brandon Demers and Braden River Alum Ahmad Hares
will represent the United States in the F1 in Schools World Competition in Singapore from
September 17th to  27th, 2010.

Our team from Braden River is combined with six students from an academic high school
from Munich Germany and the Team is called BayWa F1 – Team.

Mr. Platt, Jeremy Petty, Brandon Demers and Ahmad Hares spent eleven days in historic
and beautiful Munich Germany working on the F1 in Schools Team project and touring the
city. “We saw many amazing things in Munich, like the Olympic Complex, 500 and 600 year
old buildings and made life time friends with our German teammates.” said Jeremy Petty.

In this exciting competition our combined team has worked 18 months and countless hours
preparing for this event, building world class CO2 powered cars. Our last 3D design and
3D manufactured F1 cars were 200th of a second exceeding the world record. Our
Teammate Ahmad Hares in 2009 beat the CO2 Dragster national record. We will be
testing our final design on Wednesday after school, hoping to beat the current world record.

Our combined team has raised nearly $52,000 US, to fund our team. Students have worked
months meeting with sponsors to raise the funds and technical assistance to field our team.
We had our sponsors pay for our trips to Germany and Singapore. Our business partners
in Germany in Sarasota, Venice and Bradenton have been amazing in their commitment
to support academic achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
“Once they saw our 3D Designs, 3D Manufacturing and our Awards, our sponsors were
amazing in their commitment to help us in so many ways.” said Ahmad Hares.

“We cannot wait to fly to Singapore and show what we can do
for our school and country”, said Brandon Demers.
