or branch
of service you received. Please also
include any scholarship dollar
amount
you have been awarded as we want
recognize that honor too.

Attention All Pirates:
We
would like to know of any of our
former Pirates who did or who are
serving in the military in Iraq or
in
Afghanistan. Please contact Mrs.
Mitzi Mann if you can help us.

National Youth
Oration Contest
The official
sites that
give a full
explanation
about the
competition
on both the
local,
state, and
national
levels,
the benefits
to our
students for
participating,
and the
overall
rules and
regulations
are below.
As before,
I am
attaching
information
about the
competition
from the
National
Society
S.A.R. for a
refresher.
I want to
determine
how to best
get the
message to
your
students, so
that those
who might be
interested
can pursue
it. If you
happen to
have (or
recall) last
years
information
packet,
nothing has
changed, but
you
WILL need
the forms to
fill out for
the student
who
represents
your school.
Please also
remember
that local
winners
(1st, 2nd, &
3rd) get
monetary
prizes and
the local
winner goes
on to
compete in
the State
Finals. Only
a few years
ago, one
Saramana
student won
locally
twice
(back-to-back
years), went
on to win
the State
Finals
twice, and
twice
represented
Florida in
the
National
contest. And
you might
have the
next winner
in one of
your
classes.
Please feel
free to
contact me
by email (douggroup@yahoo.com)
or phone
(377-4302)
if you have
any
questions or
problems. I
would like
to push all
the Sarasota
and Manatee
schools to
try and
make a
decision
about
participating
this year as
soon as
possible, so
we can
concentrate
on
those
schools to
give them
all the
advantages
of early
preparation.
I look
forward to
hearing back
from you before
October
15th. (earlier,
if possible)
* Note: The
date of the
competition
is scheduled
for
Saturday,
November
13th at
the Holiday
Inn on Lido
Key.
