The 2011-2012 academic, athletic, and student activities are heading toward the end of an exciting year at Southeast High School with awards and victories by our Seminoles. Fourth Quarter Progress Reports were distributed on May 11. Last full day for seniors is Monday, May 21. Class of 2012 Senior End-of-Year Events.
End of Course (EOC) testing continues through May for students taking science and math courses. These tests count 30% of the course grade and determine if a student will receive credit for the class.
Semester exams for seniors begin on their LAST FULL DAY OF CLASS, Monday, May 21. Underclassmen exams begin on Monday, June 4.
Interested in knowing the advantages about Southeast High School? The school is well-rounded with strong academic, club, and sport activities and has been the only Manatee County school ranked by Newsweek magazine.
Students can choose to select from multiple AP courses or apply full-time to the International Baccalaureate program. The VPA Academy is the only Visual and Performing Arts Model Academy in Manatee County with high performing groups in art, drama, and music. ECC (Electronic Communications Center) includes Television Production, boasting nationally ranked broadcasting teams, and 3-D Animation programs. ABC (Agriscience, Business, Culinary Arts) is working with local businesses to provide on-campus training and skills to students headed for college or directly to the workplace. Students have the opportunity to earn Industry Certifications in Adobe products and Microsoft Office as well as Culinary’s Certified Food Service.
Student Academic and Technical Organizations, such as A-Team, TSA, SkillsUSA (TV & Culinary), FFA, and FBLA, have won competitions at the district, state, and at the national level. Southeast’s service clubs and and senior projects are reaching out to the Bradenton community and beyond, helping those in need.
Student support groups include 21st Century After School Tutoring (Free) and Enrichment Activities, IB Parent Support Group, and the AVID program, which provides positive support from faculty through organizational and study skills reinforcement.

IB senior, Matt Davis, has been awarded a full four-year scholarship to MIT. Matt is one of only 680 students admitted to MIT through the early admission’s process. While maintaining a 4.5 GPA, Matt has demonstrated his leadership skills as President of the National Honor Society and Lt. Governor of Manatee County’s Key Club (student division of Kiwanis) and is involved with many other clubs at Southeast including Forensics and FBLA. Matt also received the Golden Herald Honorable Mention Award for Citizenship. Outstanding, Matt. Read more.
Congratulations to Max Staebler who was named a National Merit Finalist! This distinct honor is awarded to students who score in the top one percentile on the PSAT. He plans to attend Duke University after graduation. Max was also named an “Academic Ace” by the School District of Manatee County. Way to go, Max!
Zil Patel is the latest Seminole to be recognized by the School District of Manatee County as an “Academic Ace.” As an IB student, she has achieved a 4.75 GPA. Not only is Zil Vice-President of Key Club, but Co-Founder and Vice-President of Humans 4 Humans (human rights club) and a member of the nationally ranked TV Production Broadcast News Program team. With her training in TV production, she was accepted into two internship programs which provided industry experience through interviewing world music talents publishing articles on the company’s web site and helping to market music talents.
Though the smallest high school in Manatee County, Southeast High School also has top-rated student organizations which include: TSA, Key Club, FFA, Forensics, Southeast Players (Drama), the SkillsUSA nationally ranked TV Production Broadcast News Program team, and WORLD CHAMPION Formula 1 race car team and Odyssey of the Mind champions.
Become involved in Southeast High School! Our next School Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting will be May 15 and begin at 7:00 p.m. in the media center. From 37th Avenue, turn onto Warrior Lane (west driveway). The Eichenberg Media Center is the 2nd building on the right. (Map) Student guardians, alumni, and community partners {present and future}are welcome to attend. Thank you for your involvement whether attending our student activities, volunteering, or participating. We look forward to seeing you there.
FOCUS (the web-based grade book that replaces Pinnacle) is now available for guardians who may wish to access their child’s grades online. The new grading program will have exciting enhancements which allow the student and guardian to see student information that was previously unavailable. Teacher grades may be input up to two weeks after the due date. Contact the individual teacher with questions about course grades.
