The Southeast Art Department is one of the most ”visual” on campus. Murals, paintings, and sculptures are on display throughout the common areas such as the media center and administration building. Students vie for the opportunity to have art pieces placed in shows and competitions. Courses include Drawing and Painting, 2-D and 3-D Art, Computer Graphics, and Ceramics. AP Art Studio is also available for the serious art student.

Art Club applications are now available in the Art Department. This club has a dual membership for those who qualify for the National Art Honor Society. Anyone who wants to be a part of a highly active service group can join. Even non-artists are welcome. Pick-up an application in Rooms 901 or 902, complete and return with $10 dues, and you can attend the first meeting during Activity Period on September 6th.

Painting-After School ProgramActive art students are invited to join the National Art Honor Society, which regularly completes community service through painting murals for nonprofit organizations, collecting pet food and toys, and gently worn suitcases for foster children.

Open Art Studio for budding Southeast artists is available after school on Thursday.

Donations for art supplies are always welcome.

Contact Barb Tapley-Kenney at 741-3366, Ext. 2041 if you would like to help.

Art Students in the heART & Soul Gala

Erin Kenney’s piece, “The Last Wave,” was one of the 25 student pieces of art selected by the Manatee Education Foundation for the annual heART & Soul Gala. Her piece, a stained glass on a salvaged window, will be auctioned live at the gala held at the Lakewood Ranch Country Cub in February. Erin recently awarded the proceeds from the event an elementary school teacher’s classroom in the form of a grant though the Manatee Education Foundation. Thank you, Erin, for giving back.

Honorable Mention recipients from Southeast include Amanda Arquette, “Getting Ready for Fall,” acrylic painting; Kristen Kubecka, “Blue Corn,” acrylic painting; and Erin Kenney, “Burning Enlightenment,” fabric and found objects.
