The Business Department actively seeks opportunities for students to hear about and participate in business activities such as guest speakers from post-secondary schools, career trips to local businesses, and working in the school’s credit union and school store. Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is been busy recruiting, planning community service projects and training for this year. With 55 members, FBLA is one of the largest clubs on campus. Advisors are Mrs. Rees and Mr. Funderburke.
This year, Southeast’s FBLA earned 35 awards at the district conference in areas such as Accounting 1, Digital Design and Promotion, Public Speaking 1 & 2, Economics, Business Math, Business Presentation, Word Processing 1, Business Law, Digital Video, Spreadsheets, Management Decision Making, Sports Management, and Technology Concepts. Students will compete at states with 25 students who may be able to compete at the national conference in Anaheim, California, in June.
FBLA members members have participated in community service activities such as collecting canned food as well as small toys, school supplies, and toiletries for children in need; selling pink and blue baby feet sheets for the March of Dimes; collecting donations for Breast Cancer Awareness and for the “Buddy Walk” sponsored by the Nation Down Syndrome Society. Student earn community service hours for their time sorting and bagging items as well as for the time spent creating posters, participating in the walks, and collecting donations.
