At Southeast High School, strings include the orchestra and the guitar classes. Both groups are under the direction of Manatee County native, Joe Downs, who delivers a diverse experience for his students. Orchestra and guitar students have played for charitable events such as a breast cancer walk and local social club charities.

Mr. Downs is proud to announce that cellist, Matt Priester, was the only student to make the All State 9th/10th Symphony Orchestra in the Manatee-Sarasota area.
