“Our Namesake”
Born and raised in Wyoming and educated in Missouri, Dan Nolan came to Bradenton after college graduation in 1960. He has been involved in education at every level… from kindergarten to post-graduate. He began his career as an English Teacher at Southeast Junior High in 1960, and has now served the Manatee School District for 41 years. During that time, he has held the position of Dean of Boys at Walker Junior High, Supervisor of Language and Art, principal of Palma Sola Elementary School, and Director of Curriculum and Staff Development. He retired as Assistant Superintendent of Academics in 1998, began teaching at the University of South Florida, then returned to Manatee County Schools in January of 2000 as Superintendent. Dan earned a Bachelors Degree in English and Speech from St. Louis University in1960, a Masters in Education from the University of Florida in 1967, a Specialist Degree from the University of South Florida in 1975, and a Doctorate in Administration from Nova University in1985.Dan and his wife, Marilyn (a retired teacher and school administrator) live in Bradenton and enjoy gardening, travel and antique collecting. The Nolans’ careers total 75 years of education in Manatee County.
